Damn, it feels good to sit down!

Finally got a seat in the car and it feels good to be sitting behind the wheel. The seat position is just a little left of the steering wheel center but is not even noticeable. I had to keep it clear of the trans tunnel and e-brake, its pretty close quarters in there.

Of course Kaden gets to sit in it before I do.

Seat mounted.
Plenty of room to get into the back seat, just as long as you don't have any legs. This is in full forward position and for me to sit comfortably it needs to be nearly all the way back.

Here is a view of the fabricated front seat mount. It is 1/4" thick and 1.5" wide with 3/16" thick plate extensions welded to either end to use the original front mounting holes for the seats.

Heres a rear view of the seat mounts. due to the difference in seat tracks I had to drill new holes to attach the rear mount I made. All the bolt holes lined up on the first try thanks to the old measure twice cut (or drill) once rule.

Rust neutralized and sealed

I went over the rust with some naval jelly rust dissolver then went over the whole floor with a brash cup brush on my drill. Fallowed by a couple coats of Chassis Saver, should be another 40 years until that will need attention.

My first floor patch job

Just a small 2"x2" rust hole in the rear floor board. Cut it out and am shaping the new piece of metal to fill it in. It had to be on an uneven surface of course so shaping took a little time.

Got it contoured to the shape and ready to weld.

The welds not the prettiest but it got the job done.
Filled in the welds with some JB stick weld to seal it up real well.

Floorboard ready for paint

Finally got the last of the tar off the floorboards and all the insulation off the firewall and tunnel. I still need to get to the hole where the heater box mounts but that should not take too long. Also found a small rust hole that will need to be patched and some rust on the drivers side rear window sill.

A little more progress but nothing major

The Brake booster was pretty rusty where the brake fluid ate through the paint so I got all the rust off of it and gave it a fresh coat of paint and some fresh grease. Also gave the clutch slave a rebuild and a fresh coat of paint. More parts ready to go in once the engine bay gets a little re-fresh.

Pedalbox complete, Well almost....

Got that nasty rusted pedal box out and went to work with some Chassis saver.

After a good cleaning with a wire brush, I scuffed it up with a red scotch brite pad and then did a good thorough cleaning with some paint thinner to remove any grease or other residue. Then 2 coats of chassis saver, (maybe a little too thick in some places) and the pedal box should last another 40 years.
It's not perfect but hell, its for stepping on right.
Pulled the clutch master apart to clean it up and give it a light rebuild. A couple of coats of paint and it will look brand new. I think I may go pick up some aluminum Chassis Saver to give it a bit of a high light. then again, its under the car so probably not.

One step forward 2 steps back!!!

Pulled the A/C system, I may regret this someday but I can always put it back in. Looks to need some work anyhow.

I was just planning on pulling the pedal box to do freshen it up and take care of a little surface rust when I ran into this. I pulled up the carpet before but I must have just been looking at the top of the tar because I saw no rust. So I pulled all the carpet out and padding and will now take on the massive task of removing all the tar, killing all the rust and laying down a nice thick coat of Por-15.
I took out the plug to check the thickness of the metal and luckily there are no holes and there is enough metal to work with that I should not need to replace the floor (on the drivers side at least).

I am trying very hard to put on a smile for the camera but its kind of hard right now.
